Halloween Takes a Splash in Pensacola
As the Halloween season sweeps across Pensacola, the city transforms with bizarre and delightful events that provide residents and visitors with unforgettable experiences. This year's celebrations have some quirky twists, featuring underwater pumpkin carving contests and cinematic nights that include furry friends.
Dive… Into Creativity!
On October 25th, certified divers can take part in the 36th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest at Park West. Hosted by Dive Pros, this unique event challenges participants to carve pumpkins while submerged 12 feet underwater. Kerry Freeland, the owner of Dive Pros, describes the challenge: "The pumpkins are buoyant, and cutting them while underwater can be tricky, but it always results in impressive designs. Each year, we see amazing creations come up from the depths!"
Featuring around 25 teams, this contest offers not just a chance at glory but also contributes to a noble cause—proceeds benefit FavorHouse of Northwest Florida, a local domestic violence shelter. Freeland adds, "It's a fun community event, and we're proud to support a charity each year."
Snuggly Scares at Coastal Cat Cafe
If diving isn’t your thing, how about a cozy movie night surrounded by adorable cats? Coastal Cat Cafe is offering a chance to watch the classic slasher film "Friday the 13th" on October 24th, while guests enjoy the company of 15 to 20 playful cats. Owner Adrienne Brynteson notes, "It’s a unique experience, and it makes for a fun atmosphere to cuddle with snuggly kittens while watching a horror film." Guests can also enjoy popcorn and hot beverages, adding to their enjoyment of the evening.
The adoption initiative further enhances the value of the event. All cats at the cafe are available for adoption, costing $150 for a cat or kitten and $100 for senior felines aged 10 years or older. Each cat comes spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped, allowing attendees to take home a loving companion.
Community Spirit Meets Spooky Fun
These unique events capture the essence of what makes Pensacola's Halloween celebrations so special. Whether you prefer to carve pumpkins upside down or watch horror films with furry friends, locals are being provided with creative outlets to embrace the spirit of the season. Beyond entertainment, events like these foster community togetherness, raise awareness for local charities, and create lasting memories.
Be sure to catch the excitement happening in Pensacola this Halloween. Both events promise a blend of creativity, compassion, and, of course, candid horror thrills, ensuring there’s something for everyone this spooky season!
